The One Book You Need to Read Right Now: Dark Aeon by Joe Allen
Dark Aeon is the single most important book on the topic of transhumanism, artificial intelligence, and tech written from a "pro-human" lens.
Joe Allen expertly and extensively covers the topic of Artificial Intelligence and Transhumanism from a “pro-human” lens. In his forward-thinking book, Dark Aeon (pronounced with a long “A”), he lays out the well-sourced history and evolution of artificial intelligence and transhumanism, both figuratively and literally, while including warnings, criticisms, and arguments against it. He eloquently delivers these messages like a dedicated and faithful watchman who speaks with educated, raw truths sprinkled with a sense of humor. There is no more important book you could read now, except maybe your religious texts (if you’re already wondering, see here).
If you’re unfamiliar with his background, Joe Allen is a journalist, author, & the Tech/AI/Transhumanism Editor on Bannon’s Warroom. Allen’s book Dark Aeon- Transhumanism& the War Against Humanity addresses the coming Singularity (merger of man & machine) & discusses/warns against dangers of tech, transhumanism, artificial intelligence & the future of the human race & how this relates to humanity (&even faith). His background is in both science & theology, and his work especially applies to the post-2024 election & the recent alliance w/AI & tech. Few journalists have covered this as comprehensively as he has while also considering deeper meanings, such as humanity itself and the Divine.
If you don’t understand the potential dangers of AI and Transhumanism, you might not recognize the brainwashing transformation occurring in children or perhaps on a grander scale across the population, one might be subject to joining the next cultish fad rising global religion of a belief that glorifies and promises everlasting life in either biology or silico, while manipulating behaviors without one’s knowledge. They’re under our roof, in our devices, and before the infestation becomes a lingering problem, we must focus our brains and understand this complex problem set.
These topics may seem like a faraway island you heard of once, but it’s suddenly become the latest vacation spot people are raving about visiting on holiday. You’re thinking, “Maybe I should look into that…” Allen delivers a complete overview and background to his readers to help clearly explain and recognize the landscape and heed plenty of warning. One does not need to understand how to write code, create websites, or program a computer to understand it. He identifies, defines, and explains the key players, sources, technology, and concerns, as well as how real and close these ideas are to us now and why we should care. The book presents ideas beyond an individual human level, community, country, and global scales. What does this mean for me? My kids? My community? My state? My Country? Humanity? What is the landscape of our digital future? It’s a tricky topic, but Allen tackles it with ease like he’s professionally wrangling crocodiles, so you don’t have to…well, at least not yet.
Allen doesn’t present Dark Aeon with new-age doomerism but rather a somewhat jarring point-blank shot of reality to the brain in a format that seems prophetic. He’s punchy, engaging, charismatic, intelligent, and informative. Sometimes, the truth hurts, but someone has to be honest with us so we can be honest with ourselves and where we’re headed.
What do we do once we have read this book? Perhaps it is figuring out a way forward for grounded and relevant AI/Tech policy, however I don’t believe that goes far enough. I think we must consider our own view of what it means to be human and our own perspective towards God (regardless of if we are atheist or any other faith). For those who may feel impending doom or uncertainty after reading this article, I highly recommend reading CS. Lewis’s Mere Christianity, especially if you are curious about deeper meanings of the Universe and the concepts of a Divine Creator. You can read more in this article: On Reading Mere Christianity.
